Research Finds Mid-Level Leaders' Competency Levels Fall Short

Posted September 03 2013
A recent study conducted by PDI Ninth House shows that mid-level leaders are falling short on several critical competencies that can affect business results.

The competencies the mid-level leaders are falling short are as follows:
  • Structuring the work/execution
  • Analysis/judgment
  • Relationships
  • Influence
  • Engage and inspire
  • Building talent

The research also found that first-level leaders ranked higher than mid-level leaders in several competency areas, such as "engage and inspire," "build relationships," "influence" and "execution." The study suggests that mid-level leaders have trouble letting go of behaviors that may have led to success in previous roles.
