planDo you know where you'll be one year from there? Do you know how to get there? An article from Human Capital League shares some helpful ideas on how you can plan to get there.

 

  • Be specific about your goals.
  • Have a start and end date for your goals.
  • Identify potential roadblocks.
  • Find mentors who can help achieve your goals.
  • Determine the skills, knowledge and competencies you will need for achieving your goals.
  • Write action plans for every goal.
  • Create a list of all the benefits of achieving your goals.

 

 

While we each aspire to have personal and career achievements, many overlook the required day-to-day commitments let alone definition of SMART goals.  When it comes to career goals, we couldn't agree more on point #5.  Without clear definition of competencies required for successful performance, and an actionable plan to develop competency gaps, employees will have great difficulty achieving individual and organizational goals.  We recommend employees work with their managers to outline these competency goals, establish the baseline through assessments, agree on a development plan and frequently revisit it (don't wait for the annual performance period!).
